Église Saint-Jacques...and its shiny new spires.

Location: Pau, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Aquitaine, France.
St Jacques church, located in the center of the city of Pau, is a neo-Gothic building erected in the second half of the 19th century, on the foundations of the chapel of the ancient Cordeliers (a branch of the Franciscan Order) monastery, seen here proudly displaying its two shiny new spires.
It was in 1873 that the church council handed the church over to the City of Pau. However, the church, weakened in 1999 by a tempest, saw, in 2001, its stone steeples removed for safety reasons. Later, in 2008, the City of Pau approved remedial works estimated at 1.8 million euros. Works included: the restitution of both steeples, the reconstruction of the bricklaying of both towers, the evaluation of the slate roof in order to prevent all water leakages which caused a lot of damage, and the restoration of the three most damaged stained glass windows. The construction also includes the strengthening of the steeple bases and the original framework, the installation of a zinc cover over the oak framework of the steeples, the mortar reconstruction, the upgrading of the electrical system, and the strengthening of the flying buttresses.The total project was eventually completed in October 2012.
