Wederopbouw - a photo on Flickriver

Wederopbouw

Een beeld zoals dat direct na de bevrijding van Nederland in 1945 gemaakt zou kunnen zijn. In de oorlogsjaren was het reizigersvervoer op de meeste resterende tramlijnen gereactiveerd. Vierkante stoomtramlocomotief 18 van de Gooische Stoomtram vertegenwoordigt dit beeld. Tijdens de invasie van Europa door de geallieerden kwam ook spoorwegmaterieel aan land. De door Vulcan Foundry gebouwde locomotief 33 van het Engelse War Department kwam bij de invasie van Normandië op Europeese bodem. Na een bijdrage aan de oorlogsinspanningen werd de locomotief vele jaren door de Nederlndse Spoorwegen gebruikt voor het goederenvervoer op de tramlijnen van de NTM in Friesland.

Hier zien we de WD33 in oorlogsuitmonstering in Medemblik omringd door vrijwilligers van de Stichting 162 in Britse legeruniformen. De WD 33 valt tegenwoordig met bijbehorende goederenwagens te bewonderen in het Nederlands Transport Museum in Nieuw-Vennep.
