This rowing boat and its tender is moving against the strong tidal flows as the water entering the Tamar estuary from the Esk Rivers (north and south) flows out to sea. But in this way the rowers build their strength and learn to coordinate their strokes to improve their times. But like King Canute discovered, there is no holding back the tide.
