Timber Trip - a photo on Flickriver

Timber Trip

            A view taken at Tavanasa-Breil/Brigels station where loaded wagons of raw timber await collection. RhB Class Geaf 2/2 shunter 20607 was heading to Trun [to run-round] and would collect the loaded Sp-w wagons on its return journey to Ilanz. The trio of empty wagons would behind the shunter be delivered to Rueun for loading and the loaded wagons delivered to Ilanz for later onward movement in the evening freight service to Landquart. The wagons were labelled for delivery to Tirano so would make the journey to Pontresina and be taken forward over the Bernina Pass to Italy. 

The RhB took delivery of the first of these electro-battery locomotives from Stadler in August 2020. The fleet of seven units which are fitted with remote control are deployed at Landquart, Untervaz-Trimmis, Chur, Ilanz, Thusis, Davos Platz and Zernez. Primarily, they run under the catenary but they also have a lithium-ion traction battery to enable operation on non-electrified lines with zero emissions.
