Not My Father's Oldsmobile - a photo on Flickriver

The Cutlass was probably the first car I wish our family had besides the Plymouths we owned during my early youth.

To a young kid with a budding fascination with cars, the Cutlass had style, class, and cachet compared with our Volaré or Duster. More importantly, the Cutlass had *identity*. It was the automotive equivalent of a new pair of Levi's (or even Lee's) compared to the Toughskins I was forced to wear.

My family did eventually own a Cutlass, a 1994 Cutlass Ciera four-door, silver. By that time, however, I was into my first dealership purchase: my 1988 Mustang.

It still fascinates me that this entire car line (and make) has just vanished.
