C-GMXQ Nationair DC-8-61 taxies for a runway 26 departure at London Gatwick

Gatwick in the 80s - a view from the Roof Terrace of a sleek looking stretched DC-8 C-GMXQ of charter airline Nationair Canada, approaching the threshold of runway 26 at London Gatwick. In the background, over in the maintenance area, a couple of smart-looking executive jet BAC 1-11s - there's a bit of heat-haze on this one 😎:)

Tragically, this aircraft was lost due to a fire, with all souls on board, on a Hadj flight departing Jeddah back to Lagos, Nigeria in 1991 (see the caption to Irish251s shot in the comments section below) and see: aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19910711-0

N8769 c/n 45983 - delivered new to Eastern Air Lines in Mar 1968. Leased to JAL from Mar 1970 to Sep 1972 as JA8057. Sold to Global Aviation Services in Jan 1981as N4582N and leased to Capitol Air between Jan 1981 and Nov 1984. Sold to Nationair Canada as C-GMXQ in Dec 1984. Sadly, the aircraft crashed 11 Jul 1991 departing Jeddah, Saudi Arabia while on wet-lease to Nigeria Airways for Hadj flights.

Taken with a Soviet made Zenith TTL camera and 300mm lens, using Kodacolor CP100 print film. Scanned from the original negative without restoration.
