Brand-new Transamerica Boeing 747-271C N742TV seen departing Frankfurt airport

The Boeing Collection - a tribute to the Boeing 747 'Queen of the Skies'
From a collection of some 500 Boeing slides that I've had scanned from my archives. Hope they will provide some enjoyment and nostalgia from a bygone age.

N742TV was one of three brand new Boeing 747s that Transamerica bought in the 1980s to supplement their fleet of stretched DC-8s and DC-10s. The aircraft is seen gleaming in the sunshine on a steep climb away from Frankfurt - callsign was TV742 indicating a test or positioning flight [i.e. the registration]. The aircraft had been delivered just two weeks earlier :)

N742TV c/n 21965 - Boeing 747-271C - delivered new to Transamerica in Mar 1980, and one of three Boeing 747-271Cs delivered to the airline in the early 1980s. The airline had been rebranded from Trans International in Oct 1979. Leased to Nigeria Airways for Hadj flights shortly after my photo was taken, the aircraft flew with Transamerica for just seven years before passing to Cargolux and used as a freighter in Jun 1987 as LX-ECV. Thirteen years later it passed to Atlas Air as N539MC. The aircraft ended its life as 4X-ICM with CAL Cargo Airlines (Israel) and was only retired in 2004 after a flying career of 24 years. After a period of storage at Amsterdam Schiphol airport, the aircraft was broken up.
