            Il gabbiano comune ha una lunghezza di 33-39 centimetri e un’apertura alare che può raggiungere anche 1 metro. Il maschio e la femmina mostrano una livrea pressoché identica. Becco e zampe sono di color rosso scuro, le ali e il dorso grigi e bianco e con un tipico “disegno” nero sule estremità alari. 
Ampia e ben distribuita in tutta Europa la specie è presente nel nostro Paese come nidificante con un contingente abbastanza modesto mentre particolarmente abbondante risulta la popolazione svernante. Come tutte le specie di gabbiano, in inverno conduce una vita piuttosto “sociale”. Il gabbiano comune si riproduce di solito in colonie, dove nidifica due volte l’anno producendo dalle 2 alle 3 uova che cova per una ventina di giorni. Una volta nati, i pulcini si presentano di colore grigio, puntinato di scuro. Finita la stagione riproduttiva, sia i giovani sia gli adulti si riuniscono in stormi. 

The common gull has a length of 33-39 inches and a wingspan that can reach 1 meter. Male and female show an almost identical livery. Beak and legs are dark red, the wings and the back gray and white with a typical black "design" wingtips.
Well-distributed throughout Europe, the species is present in Italy as a breeder with a rather modest contingent while the wintering population is particularly abundant. As all species of gull in winter leads a life social quite. The gull lives usually in colonies where it nests twice a year, producing 2 to 3 eggs which are incubated for about twenty days. Once hatched, the chicks are gray, speckled dark. After the breeding season both youngs and adults gather in flocks
