The New Whitney Museum Building, pretty much completed on the outside, its interior feverishly being worked on for the grand opening on May 1 2015, to be followed by free admission to museum on Saturday May 2 with a block party there in the Meat Packing district and the Highline Park. The beautiful creation of architect Renzo Piano situated between the southernmost part of the Highline Park and the Hudson River in nearly complete in this image taken in early April 2015. The beautiful asymmetrical structure features 50,000 square feet of indoor galleries and 13,000 square feet of outdoor exhibition space that will face the Highline Park. The museum’s current uptown address is currently closed as the move and preparations for the grand opening continue. That location will be used by the Metropolitan Museum of Art going forward for the time being. This new location brings the museum closer to where the original museum that was founded by Gertrude Whitney in 1930 in Greenwich Village which is really next door. Taken handheld with Olympus E-5, manual using a 12-60mm F/2.8-4.0 Olympus Zuiko Digital Lens, raw file processed using Adobe Lightroom.
