DSC_5831-2R2 Elk Fawn - a photo on Flickriver

            This Elk fawn (Cervus canadensis) was seen on the south side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina near the Oconaluftee Visitor Center.  There are a few flat grass fields in the area that provide elk pastureland most days.  We have seen several animals in this area thru the years.  Note that the park rangers have attached a tracker collar onto this one.

If you visit the area, please stay away from the animals at least 25 to 30 yards, for the safety of both you and the animal.
