I wish you were here [to dad] - a photo on Flickriver

            I used to think of this last sunrise session at the meanders of the river Adda as a depressingly waste of time. Maybe I was not entirely right, after all...

I wish to dedicate this shot to my late father, Giuseppe. He was a quiet man, and an amateur painter who loved above all autumnal landscapes - subjects and atmosphere which were well suited to his own character. This photo could have well been one of the subjects he loved so much. Anyway the long and winding road of postprocessing endowed this photo with the typical feeling of his autumnal paintings*. I am smelling the scent of linseed oil now, resurfacing from my memories, and I feel him close to me right now.

* Semi-technical note for Rich: No Orton or similar effects: only endless, piecemeal playing with the 5 exposures, luminosity masks, and layer modes. Towards the end of the journey I tried the inverted blue channel technique, which gave a significant contribution to the final effect (especially with respect to the yellow trees and the water). Then, as usual, a final polishing with Color Efex Pro 4
