In The Here and Now - a photo on Flickriver

This Naga sâdhu was walking along the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras), we met at Shivala Ghat.
Following the example of Lord Shiva, the Master of Yogis, he is wearing extremely long hair (jata) regarded as the seat' of his supernatural powers.and his body is rubbed with crémation ash or ashes of holy fires, symbolic of death and rebirth.
He doesn’t wear cloth to symbolize his primal condition, his non-attachment to the world.
The puppy is his companion but doesn’t have a special meaning.
