Ready... Aim... Fire - a photo on Flickriver

            Inside of the battery control trailer at the now defunct Nike missile base located in Fort Hancock / Sandy Hook, NJ

This missile base was part of the United States' air defense program durning the cold war.  In the event a Soviet Bomber were to compromise US air space in the NY area, this is one of the bases that had the capability to launch missiles to intercept the aircraft.

Parts of the base have been restored and are open for tours on certain weekends.  Many of the tour guides served at this base, or at one of the many similar bases in the US.
