Class 45 Peak Diesel D19 from Holbeck Shed, Thames - Clyde Express c1965

            A Sulzer taken in either 1965 or 1966, heading north from Keighley towards Skipton, seen at Crosshills, this locomotive was from the Leeds (Holbeck) engine shed.
When we first moved to this area in 1960 the Thames - Clyde Express was always hauled by a significant, named,  steam engine, it was just not the same with a bog standard diesel on the front.
The Thames - Clyde Express ran from London St Pancrus to Glasgow between 1927 and 1974 and part of the route was the famous Settle - Carlisle line. The express was Initiated by the LMS Railway.
Immediately to the right of the locomotive the Jubilee Tower in Steeton can be seen in the far distance, this was built in 1887.
