She was 11 too. She was killed two years later in a car crash somewhere in Oklahoma. The grownups never really told us much about it.

Yeah, it is good to know how the universe works, and the laws that govern the “why” of its working.

But, sometimes, “why” we fall in love, why food tastes good, why sex is marvelous, why I think the moon really looks like this when it rises over the Lake, isn’t crucial, or even necessary, information.

Sometimes, “just is” is all you’re gonna’ get, or need, for a reason or an answer to a question.

I remember something my father once told me that I didn't get for a moment, tilted my head questioningly, then got it, and it made me laugh. It was a play on words and concepts. I hope you feel it too.

Me: “Dad, why is that [particular] situation all messed up?”

Dad: (almost as an aside) “Just is.”

Me: “But why ‘just is’?”

Dad: “Cause “just am” or just be” doesn’t sound right,” he said, with a slight smile, and that nub of a cigar pinched in the corner of his mouth..

Can you go without answers? Can you accept that, sometimes, in matters of love and life and adventure and art, “just is” is all you are going to get? And, that’s “just fine?”

A “Blue Moon” is when you have two full moons within the same month. It is rare. And for those of us who might feel that, regardless of whether there actually proof or not, the full moon does “things” to us humans, a Blue Moon is worth noting and celebrating. (aaaa-oooooooo – a little wolf howl there.)
