Pfaffenhausen – parish church of St. Stephan

            In 1735, Prince Bishop Joseph Ignaz Philipp von Hessen-Darmstadt moved the seminary from Dillingen to Pfaffenhausen in the Unterallgäu district.
The church building that existed at that time turned out to be not only too small but also dilapidated.
A new building is decided. The foundation stone was laid in 1780 and consecrated in 1789 by the Bishop of Augsburg.
Johann Josef Anton Huber was commissioned to fresco the church interior. The main fresco in the nave shows the stoning of St. Stephen.
In the high altar, erected in 1783, the miraculous crucifix, created around 1520, is integrated, which until then had been in a side altar.
The two side altars are dedicated to the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph.
