Project:1867 - Canadian National Railway

            Created by an act of Parliament on the 20th of December, 1918 as a way to ensure the continence of rail travel in Canada while facing the possibility of several major railroads going bankrupt. When Canadian National Railways saw incorporation on the 6th of June 1919, it was made up of the Canadian Northern Railway, Canadian Government Railway, Intercolonial Railway of Canada, National Transcontinental Railway, and the Prince Edward Island Railway. While these companies remained, it was in name only, they answered to the Board of Management of Canadian National. Further expansion resulted in the absorption of Grand Trunk Pacific in March of 1919 and finally Grand Trunk itself in 1920. It would be on the 9th of November 1922 that Canadian National Railway would fully organise as a Crown Corporation. The government would divest itself and privatise CN on the 17th of November 1995, and today CN Rail continues to operate.  CN Engine 5588 is a Pacific Type 4-6-2 Engine built in 1911 by the Montreal Locomotive Works. It would go on to serve Canadian National Railways until 1961 and be saved from the scrap yards by the citizens of Windsor who restored the engine as the "Spirit of Windsor", and it has been displayed on Windsor's riverfront since the 6th of May 1965.
