Ganesha - Kino Sports Complex - Tucson Gem, Mineral and Fossil Showcase

When you get to the backlot at Kino Sports Complex, you see a lot of unusual stuff. I believe this is Ganesha.

On a personal note. My daughter is interested in gems, minerals, rocks, and stones. We took a daytrip to Tucson. It was our first time to the shows. There are actually something like 3 dozen shows around Tucson. We went to the Tucson Convention Center ("TCC") for about 3 hours and then to the Kino Sports Complex ("Kino")for about 1.5 hours. We had hoped to get to the 22nd St show and the GIGM Show on W. Starr Pass but did not have time. I wish I had bought my tickets in advance, it would have saved about 30-40 minutes of waiting in line at the Convention Center.

TCC is indoors; the exhibits are nicely curated. It is mostly retail type sales. In contrast, the Kino is mostly outside on the parking lots and fields at the complex There are some very large tents, about the size of a football field and some smaller 10x10 and 20x10 tents. Many of the gems, minerals, and displays are brought in by forklift on pallets. In the tents, the specimens are in large rectangular plastic containers. At TCC the vendors are retail and many of the gems sell by the gram. At Kino the vendors are retail and wholesale. Gems and minerals are sold by the pound. My daughter found a mineral she liked. The vendor told her it weighed .73 lbs and cost $5 / lb. The vendor told her she could go get one that was about twice as big for the same price. She thanked the vendor but this was the one she wanted.
