Top 10 Custom Minifigures of 2016
Wow what a year for some amazing custom minifigures! I've left out so many, I easily could have filled a Top 20. It wasn't an easy task to narrow them all down, so without any further ado, here we go:

Honorable Mentions

Starlord by bricks@raminator. Ramon did a fantastic job on this design. Although not a proper "full figure" custom (really just the torso) -- with some the added mods here and there help to round out one of the best Comic variants out there. Excellent job!
Gwenpool by Leyilebricks. Gwenpool despite all things "Gwen Stacy" is actually not Gwen Stacy. A rather obscure character, Gwenpool has been helped by the popularity of Deadpool and Gwen Stacy nevertheless. This figure is one of many great characters released by this up and coming costumizer.
Kingpin by SY. This fig is a perfect representation of the Comics / Video game variant. The round shaved head is what makes this big fig special. Excellent job.

No. 10 to 6

Gladiator by OLS. One of three figures in the Top 3, OLS customs bring some key characteristics: e.g. the colors are vibrant, the design is great (as always) and the custom cape and mohawk all come together to create a visual pop.
Arachno Girl by amb@r. Perhaps there is a slight home town bias here, but this fig still stands tall among the custom figs released this year IMO. The design is simple yet clear and effective and is also the first pad print release by this team :)
Sabretooth by OLS. This release is a perfect representation of both the Comics / Video game variant. A few small mods here and there really help this great fig to take a well deserved top fig spot.
Kraven by OLS. Another great release and another great representation of both the Comics / Video game variant. OLS made the great design decision to skip the Flinstone paw prints in favor of a more elaborate design (which works well). The head though is what makes this fig really standout.
Sarcastic Mercenary by PCB. You would have thought that with the numerous Deadpool variants released this year, there wouldn't be much to add in this area before Phoenix decided to release Sarcastic Mercenary -- you would be wrong. With high quality pad printing on the front / back head, front and back torso, arms, and front legs, this bad boy comes with some nice accessories (katanas / scabbard and gunmetal BrickArms 1911 v2 pistols). Another home run by PCB.

No. 5 to 3
Spider-Man (Fantastic Four) by Christo. One of three figs by Christo in the Top 10, there are some things that Christo does that places him in the upper echelon: fantastic design is an obvious trait, but the execution of the printing is something that seems only to be rivaled by TLG in terms of quality and tolerance levels. I must say, I'm pretty sure that I was one of the first to release a FF Spidey MOC and am really happy to finally have a proper pad variant of this.

Arachnid Hero v.2 by PCB. The second of three PCB figs in this year's Top 10, you could have repeated the Sarcastic Mercenary description nearly verbatim -- with so many CW Spidey variants released this year, it would be difficult to separate. But Phoenix has managed to do just that. The decision to use dual boots, the arm design and print and the head print (especially the eyes) are some of the highlights of this amazing fig.

Ms. Marvel by Christo. The second Christo offering in this year's list, frankly, I think last year's Ms. Marvel still takes the cake for best overall Ms. Marvel / Carol Danvers figs released to date (with this as a very close second). The vibrant colors, fantastic design and the custom hairpiece make this figure a really special fig.

No. 2: Runner-Up
Pink Arachnid by PCB. There are so many great things about this fig, the design, the colors the arm print, the leg / foot print. But what really blew me away was the print on the hood. Phoenix is creeping into that rare air within striking distance to rival Christo which is all you really need to know or say. PCB also had another amazing release, Chaos, which could have easily represented a 4th showing and if Sleeper Agent managed a 2016 release that could have been 5 out of 10! Congrats PCB, I know I am not alone is saying we are really looking forward to the 2017 releases.

WINNER: Best Custom Minifigure of 2016
Black Panther by Christo. So a few notes about this fig. Fellow collectors will remember NACM's amazing offering. Few thought this could be ever be topped. Well 2016 was that year. The helmet is just slightly better (and I might add, a better fit) but it's really the design and print which makes this figure really stand out. There are few figs / designs which can stand on the strength of their torso alone. Perhaps that is what makes Christo figs so great. When you add the special custom pieces (like the Mystique, Blade or Ms. Marvel hairpieces) it really helps to set the fig even further apart. Add the custom cape and this fig really stood out among a year of really amazing releases. Congratulations! Looking forward to what the coming year will hold.
