THE ZERO-G WUNDERKAMMER - PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE JAN INSIDE THE CABINET

            Open for business! 

Well then, here's the open Wunderkammer, the Cabinet Of Curiosity that reflects some of the offbeat facets of Zero-G, Melbourne based community broadcaster 3RRR FM's Science Fiction, Fantasy & Historical Radio Show. 

As you can see from the previous picture in the album, it opens up to several sizes the size of the basic panel to display 24 individual 'curios'. There's a simple 'apron' like neck strap that it all hangs off. As the cossie is made of cardboard and cloth, it doesn't weigh enough to be a 'pain in the neck'.

I had several parameters for this build.

-It needed to be capable of being quickly 'barnstormed' as I was wrapped up in reviewing the Melbourne International Film Festival until about six days before the Radiothon where I had to wear the costume during my show.

-It had to be extremely easily portable and light weight. (A principle that I don't often cleave to!)

-I didn't want to spend a small fortune on it, like some other costumes I could name.

-I really didn't want it to be a messy build this time....minimal or no paint, and not a lot of detritus to police up afterwards.

-If possible, I wanted to take advantage of pre-existing artwork I'd done to 'build in' detail.

-It had to be big! I tend to think like a Klingon when costuming. See space...dominate it! I also like costumes that I can put some additional 'motion' into, beyond just wearing it around.

-It must be easy to wear and either enable me to operate the broadcast console while in it, or be quickly removable so I could do my show unhindered. 

-It needed to nail the annual Radiothon theme (where we do a drive for subscribers) which this year was "Stay Curious: Keep The Experiment Alive!"

-An additional requirement manifested itself as I worked the concept of a Cabinet Of Curiosities. I'd done a TARDIS costume a couple of Radiothons ago, so I didn't want it to look too much like a Blue Police Box!

In the end, I think I pretty much managed to think within all those other  boxes, and outside that last one! 

I'll go through the 'curios' one at a time as well...although you can enlarge this picture quite a bit and check them out, as is. A lot of them, of course, visitors to my Flickr site will recognise.
