            The great Italian Ocean Liners of the 1930s were some of the most luxurious and innovative ships of their time. They were designed to compete with the German and British liners for the transatlantic market, and to showcase the prestige and culture of Italy. They were symbols of Italy's maritime prowess and artistic flair. Some of their distinguishing features were: 
 
•Rex and Conte di Savoia were the first Italian ships to win a prize for the fastest westbound crossing of the Atlantic. Both ships could reach speeds of over 28 knots (52 km/h). 
 
•Rex and Conte di Savoia were also the first major liners to be fitted with gyroscopic stabilizers, which reduced the rolling motion of the ship and improved the comfort of the passengers.  
 
•Rex and Conte di Savoia had lavish interiors that reflected the Art Deco style of the era, with geometric shapes, bright colors, and exotic motifs. They also had modern amenities such as air conditioning, electric fans, and telephones in every cabin. 
 
•Saturnia and Vulcania were sister ships that were launched in the late 1920s, but underwent extensive renovations in the 1930s to modernize their appearance and facilities. They had spacious cabins, elegant salons, and outdoor pools. 
 
•Roma was the last Italian liner to be built before the Second World War. She was launched in 1939, but never entered service due to the outbreak of the war. She was similar in size and design to Rex and Conte di Savoia, but had a more streamlined profile and a single funnel. She was sunk by Allied bombers in 1943.
