Church of St Peter, Market Bosworth, Leicestershire.
The earliest vicar recorded is William de Verdone of 1222
The chancel is 13c. The tower, nave and north aisle were begun c1325 replacing an earlier church mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Survey. The south aisle was added in the c1375 by lord of the manor, Sir Thomas Harcourt.
In 15c the roof was raised, replacing the original thatch, and clerestory windows were inserted to give more light to the nave. At this time the spire was built 41.45 metres high, a landmark for many miles around, and the chancel was renovated.
The tower has 8 bells dating from c 1580. They are still rung before services and on Tuesday, the main practice night.

The area has been occupied for many centuries from Roman and Bronze age times, and was well established before the Norman Conquest in 1066, when one of the two manors belonged to Fernot an Anglo-Saxon knight. In Norman times the manors eventually passed by marriage to the the Harcourt family. A market every Wednesday was granted by King Edward I
In 1509 the manor passed from the Harcourts to the Grey family who lost it after the beheading of Lady Jane Grey in 1553 and was passed by Mary Tudor to Edward Hastings. Hastings was followed by the Dixie family of Bosworth Park who came in 1567 and were here well into the 19c . They have a family vault under the north aisle chapel, and have several monuments including an elaborate one to rector John Dixie 1719 erected by his sister Margaret who had her sorrowing figure carved on it. www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/n87N6k along with a long winded epitaph.

The building was restored in 1893 by Charles E. Deacon of Liverpool.
