1970 Porsche 911 Carrera RS

            Pictured is a 1970 Porsche Carrera RS that has been upgraded to RSR specification using original RSR parts.

The car carries the 'works' Martini livery that Porsche used on the original RSR race cars that competed in the World Sportscar Championship in 1973 and 1974.

The cars proved to be very competitive, especially in the hands of Formula 1 driver and former Le Mans winner Gijs van Lennep.

The Dutchman, partnered by Switzerland's Herbert Muller, took an RSR to victory in the 1973 Targa Florio, the last time the classic Italian road race was held. The same duo also brought an RSR home in fourth position overall in the Le Mans 24-Hour race that same year.

The same driver pairing went even better in 1974 bringing the factory RSR home in second place at Le Mans behind the victorious Matra-Simca MS670C prototype of Henri Pescarolo and Gerard Larrousse.

Other drivers to compete in the Martini RSRs included Porsche stalwart Reinhold Joest (whose team has won the Le Mans 24-Hour race on fifteen occasions), Claude Haldi from Switzerland, Manfred Schurti from Liechtenstein and the late Austrian Formula 1 driver Helmuth Koinigg. 

The car pictured above has competed in national events in Spain and taken victories at Valencia and Jarama. It has even been used as a rally car, competing on the Rally Isla de Mallorca and finishing second in the 2004 event.
