Chambon Sainte Croix, Creuse 23, France

            The original church of Sainte Croix was built sometime in the 11th century, but only fragments of that building remain, and the present church dates from the 13thC. Although the building is sound, it has a rather dilapidated appearance, and is used only rarely. It is almost impossible to photograph properly, due to the close proximity of other buildings, themselves in a varying stages of decay. The bell tower and spire seem to have been re-slated relatively recently, and are clearly visible from the village. Probably 16thC.
