Ready for descent from Ellmauer Tor saddle (2000 m) in Wilder Kaiser rock climbing paradise (and climber's graveyard!). KAISER NATURE RESERVE.

Поглед ка селима Гоинг и Елмау у долини, скијалишту Астберг иза њих, и Кицбилшким Алпима и Високим Турама у даљини. На Петровдан 2011, при самом почетку силаска са седла. 

► █░▓    KAISER NATURE RESERVE - there is none commercial investment/development whatsoever in this region ever since 1963. The 940 different flowering plants, 38 different species of fern and over 400 different mosses are safe and sound, completely spared. 

-This was the second time we stood at this place. The first time it had been in the summer of 2009, when we promised to the friendly staff of cozy Gaudeamushütte (1263 m) to come back. So we did come again, in 2011. 
This saddle is a jaw-dropping view point over the rock faces all around. Among them the historically famous, terrifying Predigstuhl (2116 m) at the right side (when viewing north), and the ridge Hintere Karlspitze (2279 m) - Fleischbank (2186 m) at the left side. Above the saddle lie just about the only two normally accessible peaks for the hikers in the whole region - Hintere Goinger Halt (2192 m) and Vordere Goinger Halt (2242 m). Both times I hoped we would reach them. But in vain. 
To the right in the image (or when looking southwards) rises the sheer drop of the Vordere Karlspitze (2263 m) east face. Far below in the valley lie the villages of Going (left) and Ellmau (right). Behind them the ski slopes of Astberg (1267 m). Far behind Astberg rises the distant elegant snowy giant Großvenediger (3674 m), said to be overlooking the almost 200 km remote Venice on the other side (189 km precisely). From the spot this photo is made, there is exactly 50 km as the crow flies to the very top od Großvenediger. Meaning 240 km to Venice.

We didn't know at the time, but it was our last hike together for many years to come. May there ever be another one.
