            DO NOTHING 

This is my do nothing poem
for Frank O’Hara.
I wrote it when I was ill
with the lung lava.

Laid on the settee 
without the energy
to do this and that,
I did nothing.

Ginsberg said it would be easy,
like he was the Buddha speaking.
I found it tiger tough.

But thanks to Frank I had Jimmy Dean
and Carole Lombard for company
and I spent the day wandering 
in the New York rain. Coughing
like a ghost and wheezing like
a freight train.

This is my do nothing poem 
and it's for you Frank.
