While we do live in the South, we are not far enough south to have Live Oaks, and every time we go to where they are, I’m fascinated. They live to be as old as 800 or even 900 years old. They spread out, eventually limbs touching the earth in places when they get really old. They are frequently covered in Spanish Moss and Resurrection Fern, epiphytes that thrive on the warm, humid air in these parts. It's the Resurrection Ferns that cover these. Together they create a mood on a misty morning before the sun has burned away the fog here in the low country of coastal South Carolina.
