Columba palumbus

            The Ringeltaube called in english "common wood pigeon" and the Scientific name is Columba palumbus. Is the largest wild pigeon species in central Europe and is widespread across much of Europe and western Asia. Adults reach about forty centimetres in length with a wingspan of around seventy centimetres. They are easy to recognise by the grey body, pink breast, bright white patches on the sides of the neck and a white band across the upper wings that shows clearly in flight. Originally a bird of woodland edges and open countryside, it now also lives in farmland, parks and gardens and is a familiar sight in many towns and cities. Its food consists mainly of seeds, grains, nuts, leaves, buds and berries. The global population is large and stable, so the common wood pigeon is currently considered a species of least concern for conservation.
