9V-SPK ¦ ZRH 03.09.1999

9V-SPK as one of over 40 747-400 passenger jets operated by the Singaporean flag carrier, and was built and delivered in 1997. A year later it became one of two 747-400s to receive a special colour scheme, the "Tropical Megatop" livery, as SIA initially called their 747-400s "Megatop".

9V-SPK was captured upon a rather rare visit to Zürich, arriving on runway 14 in the tropical livery, also showing "Now more than ever, a great way to fly" lettering on the nose.

The career of another great 747 livery came to an abrupt end when on 31 October 2000, 9V-SPK attempted take-off from a closed runway at Taipei in bad weather, hitting construction equipment and concrete barriers, breaking into several parts and bursting into flames, claiming the lives of 83 of the 159 on board.
