The Yellow Dusk's Transforming Light

            I have cycled and walked this track probably hundreds of times, and I know and love it so well that this shot makes me feel I am in the scene. It also makes it harder than usual for me to assess its objective worth as an image. But for anyone it needs to be viewed at large scale... 

Before the sun gave up and sank on a peri-solstice winter evening, it shone blindingly from the right, horizontally across the southward-leading path.

Taken on the Artists' Trail, a section of the Main Yarra Trail in Melbourne. At intervals there are reproductions of famous examples of nineteenth century artworks from the Australian version of Impressionism practised by the "Heidelberg School", including several by Arthur Streeton. The title of this picture is a transformation of a line from a Shelley poem given by Streeton as the title of one of his most iconic paintings, which hangs in the National Gallery of Victoria, 'The Purple Noon's Transparent Might'.

In an image's composition, my mind is compelled to seek a kind of centre of gravity, and to see geometrical elements supporting that. Some of the constructs it imposes on this image are shown in a comment below. But all that might be because, within seconds I'll hurtle round to the left, down a dip, then up again to swing right onto the still sunny open strip visible in the distance under the trees...
