Gateway to the Valley Beyond - a photo on Flickriver

            This weekend, we drove down to Najd Al Maqsar, an ancient mountain village at Khor Fakkan, Sharjah that has been lovingly restored and reconstructed. This is a tiny hamlet that climbs up the sides of a small rocky hill, culminating in a terrace with a watchtower at the summit. Below the hill lies the valley of Wadi Shie, where some sort of cultivation project is ongoing. This shot is of Wadi Shie looking down from the summit terrace gates of Najd Al Maqsar. The gates open up to present a pleasing vista of the valley below, with pockets of green among the arid, rocky landscape. A nice drive for a weekend, though a tad long.
