The old shop and bridge over the Hamble Brook, Hambleden, Buckinghamshire

You can see why this small, perfect village in its idyllic valley is so popular with film and television makers.
It also helps that Britain's premier film studio, Pinewood Studios (home of James Bond, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and Harry Potter and endless others and spin-offs) is about 15 miles away by crow, or about 45 minutes by car and filmstar due to the country lanes.
It's just occurred to me that one of England's most upmarket country hotels, the infamous Cliveden House (I have an album!) is in-between the two. If I was an A lister that would be where I would stay.

Indeed, the last time I took this shot, or something similar, Disney (who have leased Pinewood) were here set-dressing every corner with the most amazing amount of flowers for a dance routine for the film Disenchanted starring Amy Adams, the follow up to the first (and considerably better) Enchanted. (The village was heaving with people and trucks!)

Amazingly the lorry loads of branches of wisteria they were cable-tying by the truckload seemed to be real, the scent was overwhelming.
I've seen the film. Only a quarter of the village was used in the end despite the whole of it being dressed. 30 seconds at the very most!

One of the reasons Hambleden has remained so timeless is that it's under the protection of a 'National Trust Covenant'.
A rather odd arrangement, it was created in the 1930's so the National Trust can impose restrictions on properties and landscapes they don't own.
This is why even humble unlisted cottages still have wooden window frames (and not the horrible uPVC...why hasn't Farrow and Ball got in bed with some company to colour some the ever popular 'Lichen green'... they would make a fortune!).
Also the road surface is some flattering, fine gravel set in some sort of resin and there are no double yellow lines, perfect for period films.
