            The house was built in 1851-2 in Roman concrete. It may have the most spectacular setting of any English stately home. It stands on a great bluff of chalk with far reaching and plunging views of the River Thames flowing below its steep wooded slopes. Now a luxury 5 star hotel and spa it includes suites that contain four private dining rooms. 
It continues to enthral the glitterati; Megan Markle and her mother stayed here the night before her wedding to Prince Harry at Windsor Castle a few miles down river. 
Cliveden's glamorous and often notorious past is summed up by the hotel motto;
"Nothing ordinary ever happened here, nor could it."
