Autour de Palombes (Accipiter gentilis) Northern Goshawk

L'autour chasse souvent à l'affût, branché en lisière de forêt par exemple, et capture ses proies par surprise à l'issue d'un vol d'approche rapide, bas et silencieux en milieu ouvert ou semi-ouvert. Il peut aussi chasser à la billebaude et profiter de l'effet de surprise provoqué par son irruption. En forêt, il repère probablement ses proies d'abord à l'oreille, s'en approche et cherche le bon moment pour attaquer. Il est capable de poursuivre sa proie vivement en louvoyant entre les arbres.
La proie est capturée par des serres très efficaces, plaquée au sol et tuée d'un coup de bec. En milieu ouvert, l'autour cherche l'abri de ligneux pour plumer et consommer sa proie.

The goshawk often hunts on the lookout, plugged in at the edge of a forest for example, and captures its preys by surprise at the end of a fast, low and silent approach flight in an open or semi-open environment. He can also hunt with a log and take advantage of the effect of surprise caused by his irruption. In the forest, it probably first spots its prey by ear, approaches it and looks for the right time to attack. It is able to pursue its prey sharply by tacking between trees.
The prey is captured by very efficient talons, pinned to the ground and killed with a peck. In an open environment, the goshawk seeks shelter from woody plants to pluck and consume its prey.
