Hover-fly. (please read my poetry) - a photo on Flickriver

            (Helophilus pendulus) 12mm.

I am lucky to see plenty of different hover-flies in my garden, they are so wonderful to watch hovering, zipping around from flower to flower it's really nice to see, I really love my little garden friends! 🐝🐞

This lovely black and yellow striped hover-fly was photographed nectaring from a white daisy flower, these common insects can usually be seen flying between April to late October in the British Isles.

I believe that my identification is correct, I have been wrong in the past, I do sometimes struggle with all the different species of insects and their scientific names.

I fly though the air like a cowboys whip,
I'm hoverfly yes I zip,
flower to flower I nectar skip,
summers short so let it rip,
hover still in the air then .... flip,
down for the nectar sip, sip, sip
down & up you dip, dip, dip,
wow' now that's some awesome zippy trip.
