The Heralding DSC_8093 - a photo on Flickriver

            I realised I hadn't uploaded the second image of the two Brolga's Bugling taken back in June at the Western Treatment Plant. This was from a different angle and I love how it shows the shape of the wings folded back, almost like a love heart.

I come not hearalding good news today for those following the Tawny Frogmouth Chicks.  After being so hopeful yesterday after finding the two chicks survived the night and the storm, I was so upset to receive an early morning message from Andrew that one chick was dead and the remaining parent gone.   The winds were quite strong for a good part of yesterday so I assume one of the chicks fell out of the tree and was quickly taken by a predator. There were tiny little fluffy grey and white feathers scattered under the tree. It was then finding the tiny little bodies of the two Black-faced Cuckoo Shrike babies that were nesting on the same tree, that pushed me over the line. This stuff happens every minute of every day in nature but when when you see it unfold in real time,it is confronting. These birds have a following and many people are saddened by this.

The Ranger is going to see if the parent comes back today and if not, hopefully, the chick will be rescued.
