Industrial Staffordshire - a photo on Flickriver

            A recreation of the coal industry in  the Cannock Chase area of Staffordshire, as it was in the 70s through to the early 90s.

Ex-National Coal Board 'Janus' Class 0-6-0 diesel No.6 shunts a load of Merry-Go-Round coal wagons at Brownhills West, Chasewater Railway.

102 Janus locos were built between 1956 and 1965 by the Yorkshire Engine Company. Most went to British Steel, but the National Coal Board ordered 7. Around 30 are still in service, or preserved.

No.6 was preserved after the closure of Littleton Colliery, Cannock in 1994.

They were called Janus after the Roman God with two faces - inspired by the loco's symmetrical design with a central cab.
