Why I took the photographs?

It was part of a graphic design project I was doing. I was creating a fictional CD album art for a fictional female singer. The album art was to be based on some of the fictional tracks about her childhood life, including one track that was to be about her childhood home. The song would be about the old town she grew up in, it used to be part of the industrial revolution, but is dying due to lack of jobs in the modern world.

Because of this, I needed some background photographs of an old town, and an old industrial area, taken in black and white. I tried to look for some streets that may still have old buildings with minimal signs of modern objects. I needed some photos of old industrial buildings, and figured an old coal mine towers would make a good background. This is why I went there, to try to take some photographs of the old mine shaft, to be used as background in the album art.

That’s why the title is called Big Pit Background.

About the Big Pit Coal Museum.

It was a real working coal mine from around the 1880s to 1980. It was then taken over as a heritage coal mine museum, originally called National Mining Museum of Wales, before changing its name to Big Pit National Coal Museum, and is part of the National Museum Wales group. It opened in 1983 to the public with above ground museum, and a visitor/tourist attraction below the ground, visiting the old mine shafts.
