            Nerium oleander is an evergreen shrub or small tree in the Apocynaceae family. It is most commonly known as oleander.  Oleander is one of the most poisonous of commonly grown garden plants.  Theophrastus described In his book Enquiries into Plants of ca. 300 BC,  a shrub he called onotheras, which modern editors render oleander - the root of which if administered in wine, makes the temper gentler and more cheerful.
