Rat having an afternoon snack - a photo on Flickriver

            We have four beautiful pet rats, descended from the common Brown Rat (Rattus norvegicus). This little sweetie looks just like a young Brown rat (which can and do come in a variety of colours).  It seems to have a blunter snout than Rattus rattus (the Black rat and wrongly accused spreader of the plague!) and Rattus Norvegicus are much more common.  So I think that's who our visitor is.  It was helping itsellf to seeds in the overgrown grass around the bushes in our backyard (which I am reluctant to mow because of the spiders.  Now I have another reason to forgo mowing!). I have been seeing something dashing in the bushes for two weeks now, and finally "caught" the culprit on camera. :)
