The young fisherman - a photo on Flickriver

            I took this shot a year ago, while I was traveling through the Netherlands. A day before I had discovered a pond where a juvenile kingfisher was fishing and allowed me to sit there, without it fleeing away. 

It was rather dark that day, and I was not completely satisfied with the result so next day I went back and sat there for ca 5 hours, just observing this young kingfisher catching tadpoles. It was rather successful also.
 I estimate that ca 50% of its tries resulted in a catch.

A wonderful experience that resulted in many nice images, but I didn't succeed in the ultimate shot, where it gets out of the water with something in its beak. My goodness how fast they are.

Another funny thing, at the end of the day, one of the parents came back, and took it back home.
