Hollands kant has a visitor - a photo on Flickriver

Het fluitenkruid dankt zijn naam aan het feit dat van de stengel fluitjes gemaakt kunnen worden. Om een fluit te maken moet bij een holle fluitenkruidpijp, met onderaan een dichte knoop, ongeveer halverwege een snee overlangs gemaakt worden.

De plant werd door Jac. P. Thijsse ook wel 'Hollands kant' genoemd. Dit omdat de bloemen fijn van vorm zijn. In Groningen en Friesland wordt ze ook wel pinksterbloem genoemd, niet te verwarren met de eigenlijke pinksterbloem.

The cow parsley owes its name to the fact that whistles can be made from the stem. To make a flute, a hollow cow parsley pipe, with a closed knot at the bottom, must be cut longitudinally about halfway through.

The plant was developed by Jac. P. Thijsse also called 'Dutch lace'. This is because the flowers have a fine shape. In Groningen and Friesland it is also referred to as the cuckoo flower, not to be confused with the actual cuckoo flower.
