Blackcap (m) in my garden - a photo on Flickriver

            It was nice at last to get a shot of the male Blackcap away from the apple and feeders.

The female Blackcap visited my garden several times each day for over 3 weeks. The male was just an occasional visitor and stayed for just a few seconds. They have now swopped over. I have not seen the female for 3 days, but the male has taken up residence in the garden.

As the weather is cold and I want to attract more different species, I put out 2 extra feeders late yesterday afternoon. This morning I was surprised to see very few birds on the feeders. Then I found out why. The Blackcap was attacking and chasing away any bird that came  on or near the feeders.  I moved a couple of the feeders further up the garden. This encouraged some of the birds to return. 

My resident Robin has been the top bird in the garden since it found a mate a couple of weeks ago. But at least it only chases the Dunnocks and a few of the House Sparrows.

The Robin and Blackcap had quite a few battles during the day. At one time they were both on sentry duty attacking other birds.
