Common Gallinules - a photo on Flickriver

Common Gallinules

(Second of two) When I spotted this family of Common Gallinules they were in the sun in one of the canals along the Laurel Wildlife Drive at Savannah National Wildlife Refuge. Tall reeds along the edge made photography difficult.

As a thunderstorm moved through I found a good vantage point, but lost most of the light. Although the image is noisy and required a lot of processing, I liked the details of the young birds.

In my older bird guides, they are listed as Common Gallinules, which was later changed to Common Moorhen, and recently back to Common Gallinule.
