Breathtaking views from the Grape Viewpoint on Koh Nang Yuan

Koh Tao is a beautiful island located in the Gulf of Thailand, about 70 kilometers east of mainland Thailand. Part of an archipelago that also includes Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, the island is best known for its breathtaking natural beauty and diving and snorkeling opportunities. The Grape Viewpoint on Koh Tao is one of the most beautiful scenic viewpoints on the island. This viewpoint offers stunning panoramic views of Koh Nang Yuan, three islands connected by sandbars, as well as the surrounding crystal clear waters. This is a great place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty. The views are spectacular and provide a great photo opportunity. To reach the Grape Viewpoint you will have to undertake a very brisk hike into the lush jungle that covers the interior of the island. The trail can be steep and rocky in places, so make sure you have appropriate footwear and exercise caution. The jungle of Koh Tao is home to a variety of flora and fauna. Here you can encounter tropical birds, butterflies, lizards and different types of plants and trees. We came across large bats, also known as flying foxes. Take into account a long and hot climb of about 2 hours (and 2 hours back). Don't forget to bring enough water. However, the view at the top makes all the effort worthwhile.

The journey to Grape Viewpoint typically commences from the village of Chalok Baan Kao on Koh Tao. Starting from this point, you'll head inland, following the road that leads towards the hills. The road is smoothly paved up to the base of the hill, but beyond that, it becomes steeper and less even. If you don't have access to a scooter, you can choose to travel on foot. As you proceed, you'll eventually come across the Butterfly Bar. Upon passing the Butterfly Bar, you'll encounter signs that guide you to the Grape Viewpoint. Follow these markers, and ascend the path that winds up the hill. Be prepared for some steep and rocky sections along the trail, so it's advisable to wear appropriate footwear and exercise caution. Take into account a long and hot climb of about 2 hours (and 2 hours back). Upon reaching the summit of the hill, you'll arrive at the Grape Viewpoint, where you can savor a panoramic vista of the bay and the neighboring islands. This view is particularly breathtaking, especially during the mesmerizing sunset. This is certainly one of the least visited corners of the island and offers a truly unique perspective.

Koh Tao is een prachtig eiland gelegen in de Golf van Thailand, ongeveer 70 kilometer ten oosten van het vasteland van Thailand. Het eiland maakt deel uit van een eilandengroep die ook Koh Samui en Koh Phangan omvat, en staat vooral bekend om zijn adembenemende natuurlijke schoonheid en de mogelijkheden voor duiken en snorkelen. De tocht naar Grape viewpoint begint meestal vanuit het dorp Chalok Baan Kao. Vanaf hier volg je de weg landinwaarts in de richting van de heuvels. De weg is verhard tot aan de voet van de heuvel, maar wordt vervolgens steiler en ruwer. Als je geen scooter hebt, kun je ook te voet gaan. Aan het einde van de weg kwamen de Butterfly bar tegen. Na de Bufferfly Bar zie je bordjes die naar het Grape Viewpoint wijzen. De Grape Viewpoint op Koh Tao is één van mooiste schilderachtige uitkijkpunten op het eiland. Dit uitkijkpunt biedt een prachtig panoramisch uitzicht op Koh Nang Yuan, drie eilanden die met elkaar verbonden zijn door zandbanken, evenals de omringende kristalheldere wateren. Dit is een geweldige plek om te ontspannen en te genieten van de natuurlijke schoonheid. Het uitzicht is spectaculair en biedt een geweldige gelegenheid om foto's te maken. Om het Grape Viewpoint te bereiken, moet je een zeer stevige wandeling maken in de weelderige jungle die het binnenland van het eiland bedekt. Het pad kan steil en rotsachtig zijn op sommige plaatsen, dus zorg voor geschikt schoeisel en wees voorzichtig. De jungle van Koh Tao herbergt een verscheidenheid aan flora en fauna. Je kunt hier tropische vogels, vlinders, hagedissen en verschillende soorten planten en bomen tegenkomen. Wij kwamen grote vleermuizen tegen, ook wel bekend als vliegende vossen. Houdt rekening met flinke en warme klim van zo'n 2 uur (en terug 2 uur). Vergeet niet voldoende water mee te nemen. Het uitzicht op de top maakt echter alle inspanningen de moeite waard. Dit is zeker een van de minst bezochte hoeken van het eiland en biedt een echt uniek perspectief.
