We walk a beautiful trail through the Bluntau valley all the way up to the peak of the Jenner. It’s going up and up to the alpine pastures and to the frontier of Austria and Germany. Remember to keep stopping and taking in the views along the way. Warning – it does get quite steep towards the end! Once you reach the summit there is a mountain inn at the top for you to rest and have something to eat and drink. On a clear day you can see Salzburg. There is a signpost that tells you what is in each direction and points out an alternative route back to Berchtesgaden. A place also with some history since it's located near the holiday home of Hitler, the Kehlsteinhaus Eagle's Nest. Adolf Hitler really loved the Bavarian Alps and eventually, under the direction of Martin Bormann, an entire sicherheitsdienstzone security zone was constructed at the top the mountain. There, Hitler, Göring, Bormann, Speer and other high Party officials had nice homes built. There was a large farm where all the food consumed in this closed area was grown and produced including livestock - even a large bee house for the honey.

On our stroll around the Jenner mountain on the opposite side of the Königssee we came across this little gem. A typical bavarian farmhouse in sunny setting with a nice view to the mountains. Hiking trails starting on the spot. The rocks on the roof are a common component of Bavarian mountain houses - they help hold the snow on the roof for added insulation, and to help prevent large slabs from sliding off.

The paintings of Romantic artist Caspar David Friedrich have impressed the iconic image of Bavarina Alps upon every German’s mind. For centuries, the mountain—and the sparkling blue lakes and deep forests surrounding it—was dominated by herdsmen and shepherds. Soon artists, then tourists, flocked to these mountains, and the herdsmen became pension owners and guides. The Berchtesgaden National Park now hosts multitudes of weekend adventurers in addition to seasoned outdoor explorers, who are offered everything from mountain biking and hiking to skiing, rafting, bobsledding, and paragliding. The park accommodates the seemingly endless number of activities and trails through high alpine pastures and the forest areas designated to remain untouched by human hands.
