Columbia Gorge • Bridal Veil Falls • Keep that lens dry! or How to make a cool mist filter!

            Despite drying the lens off three times while shooting here, another blast of mist caught me unawares and spoiled this shot when the light was at its best. Within a few minutes the sun disappeared behind the trees. Foolishly I only did a quick check of the histogram to make sure that there was no gross over exposure, and missed seeing the spots (which were clearly visible on the LCD) until I got home :-(  Perhaps this was my just reward for my going down to the waters edge while a number of other photographers were taking pictures from the platform above. 

I experimented with using Photoshops Rubber Stamp and Healing Brush tools to remove these spots, but they were just too many to close together to find enough good info to paste over the bad spots. I also tried copying parts of another photo that didn't have these spots into parts of this image, and although that worked well for the boulder on the right and rock in the foreground, I just didn't have the right data to clean up the left bank. Lesson learned I should have set up the shot on the tripod, cleaned the lens, taken the shot, checked the lens... it would have been quicker and more rewarding! N1051
