"Irish Wade", Beard pullers jar, side view

            Another very intricate and fascinating design, the Beard Pullers, by James Borsey for Wade, Ireland (located in Portadown, Co. Armagh) dating from the 1960s. This factory closed down in the 1990s.

If you look at the largest size of this photo you can see clearly that the embossed, interlaced pattern is made up of four different men: each man is pulling the extraordinarily long beard of the man next to him, while his exceptionally long hair is being pulled by the man behind him. This motif was copied from a book of traditional Irish Celtic knotwork patterns. This rather odd shade of greyish green is typical of Irish Wade items.
