Aviators train to fight wildfires at Fort Barfoot

Virginia National Guard aviation crews assigned to the Sandston-based 2nd Battalion, 224th Aviation Regiment, 29th Infantry Division conduct water bucket training with UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters Oct. 5, 2023, at Fort Barfoot, Virginia. Aviation assets can support firefighting efforts with the use of water buckets, which require periodic training for flight crews in order to ensure proficiency with the equipment. The training provided currency and qualifications for three complete flight crews, capitalizing on lessons learned during firefighting operations during the unit’s deployment to Kosovo in 2022.
