Westwell Manor, Oxfordshire - a photo on Flickriver

            Westwell Manor, near Burford, is one of the finest gardens of England.  It's the creation of the landscape designer Anthea Gibson (1941-2010) who, with her art dealer husband, bought the 17th Century Manor from an Oxford college in 1979.  The garden she created is traditional, with a dozen or so garden rooms divided by hedges.  There are also some startling modern innovations, most notably the black pool.   Westwell Manor is generally open once a year under the National Gardens Scheme - it was charmingly blowsy on our visit.
